The N3RDCast
Our weekly discussion on Comic Books (FULL of spoilers!), MMORPGs, gaming, comics, and geekdom in general.

We don't talk about a SINGLE SDCC news item. Not only are we proud of that failure, we're downright smug. The show is 110% less sexy this week with the absence of Dr. Sexy, but we struggle on to discuss Josh of PLB comics STILL sucks, the N3RDs are getting a beatdown, an ideal Sirius-XM channel, more love for CBQ & Q!PAW, people save the shittiest comics, being sick at the beach, Becker's pissed at Kwip, some comic talk, ongoing projects, more participants for our Pitts Wooden Dollar Promo!

We get Joe Haley and TJ Dort on our (horrible!) party line to interview them about their INCREDIBLE book, The Underburbs! We're joined in the studio by quite a mob - Eli, Matt, TJ and Caitlin are lurking, as well as a few choice words from Matt's spawn... We also discuss the excellent web comic Bloody Pulp, which EVERYONE MUST VOTE FOR! Get to Zuda.com NOW and register and cast your vote (and favorite and comment)! Also: movie talk, some comic talk, TJ stars in Airbender, the Ficnic aftermath and swearing in front of children.

If you've listened to our show or met us at any recent cons, you've heard us talk about our idea for the upcoming Pittsburgh Comic Con. The idea goes like this: at the N3RDCast booth, we'll be passing out wooden dollars. WITH those wooden dollars will be small flyers that list all the participating booths people can use those dollars at. People will then trundle off to spend their dollars (one per customer, valid only at participating vendors, of course!) at one booth or another.

HOWEVER - they will visit ALL the booths on our list.

Why? Because if they do so, they can get someone at that booth to sign the flyer. When they return that flyer to our booth with all of the required signatures, they will be entered to win a large, high-quality print signed by all the participating artists. The print is a large jam piece - it will be started as a digital file by Leadslinger Studios, featuring some of their characters fighting empty spaces. The piece will then be sent around (through the magics of the interweb) to all participating artists in turn so they can add their character(s) to the jam piece in one massive, giant rumble! The final crowning touch will be added by Jamie "Dr. Sexy" Fickes, as Mumblepuss will reign supreme over the fight. Because really, in a fight of super-powers, ALWAYS bet on the surly teddy bear...

We will also provide all the participating artists with prints that they can do with as they see fit (I've heard they'll be acceptable currency for drinks at a bar later!). Space is limited (meaning we have no idea how many artists we can get to work on this piece in one month!), so if you're interested, let Kwip know!

See you in Pitt!

We have two great interviews this week: first up, Jorge Vega joins us on the phone and Jeff McComsey actually braves the studio to talk about their awesome entry into the Zuda webcomics competition, Bloody Pulp (http://bit.ly/p1WRE). They also suffer through our usual rambling and fart jokes. Next, we call Eric Houston to talk about his most excellent book, The Comic Book Podcast Companion (http://bit.ly/VMKko). Eric is a lot of fun to talk to and did a great job on that book, so check it out! We also discuss a few books that came out this week, some excellent Becker phone calls (of course!) and reveal our NEW N3RDCast hotline!

Oh, duh - I should also mention our break music is Cannibal Queen, by the most excellent Miniature Tigers!

You probably haven't heard it anywhere else yet, but Comic Geek Speak got a new show on Sirius-XM. The rumor is that Howard Stern was royally ticked off that he didn't know about it sooner so he could have promoted it on David Letterman. We also discuss the comic PEGG with the Mike Caulfield, whom we were lucky enough to meet at Wizard World Philly. Being who we are, of COURSE there are technical issues! Francis and Lynn have a lovely discussion about yard care and pet talk. It is delightful!
