Wed, 29 November 2006 ![]() Sure, it sounds good on paper - your players doing stupid, risky stuff in a dangerous area? Kill ‘em! Kill ‘em FOREVER! But would anyone actually play a game that did something like that? Let alone pay you hard-earned money for the chance to lose everything? Well, I certainly think so. We discuss this (and somehow many other topics, despite our best efforts to stay on track), and give our oh-so-expert opinions on whether or not it would work. Of course I’m right, but this is one subject that’s pretty dear to my heart, so I’d love for you to give it a listen and let us know what you think! Comments[0] |
Mon, 27 November 2006 A double-long episode this week, featuring Bruce Rosenberger. Titles we spoil: ESCAPISTS, 52, ASTRO CITY THE DARK AGE BOOK TWO, SHADOWPACT, DEADWORLD, INVINCIBLE, JACK STAFF, ASTONISHING X-MEN, CIVIL WAR, IRON MAN, MOON KNIGHT, NEW AVENGERS, SQUADRON SUPREME, UNION JACK, WHAT IF SPIDER-MAN THE OTHER, X-MEN FIRST CLASS, CONAN, BOYS, JACK OF FABLES, MAN CALLED KEV, RED MENACE, WONDER WOMAN, LOOKING GLASS WARS HATTER M, WALKING DEAD, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, AVENGERS EARTHS MIGHTIEST HEROES II, CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE , DAREDEVIL, FANTASTIC FOUR THE END, PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL, WOLVERINE, X-FACTOR, DAMAGED, ENIGMA CIPHER, PLANETARY BRIGADE ORIGINS.I don't know why Bruce chose to brave our idiocy up-close and personal, but I can only hope he came through unscathed. We'll know if he starts dropping the F bomb every other word and insulting Joe Q in his podcast, no doubt. I'm still surprised at how long we can blab we when (don't) put our minds to it. We probably could've gone on even longer, had we gotten wound up on a particular issue (shitty editing!). But if you've got a couple hours to spare for our wacky hijinks, give it a listen! Mon, 13 November 2006 Special guest-star this week: Lon, our amiable comic store guy! Titles we spoil this week: 52, BATMAN, FABLES, GREEN ARROW, TEEN TITANS, AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL, AVENGERS EARTHS MIGHTIEST HEROES II, BULLET POINTS, CIVIL WAR YOUNG AVENGERS & RUNAWAYS, DOCTOR STRANGE OATH, ETERNALS, FRANKLIN RICHARDS HAPPY FRANKSGIVING, MAGICIAN APPRENTICE, PUNISHER, ULTIMATE X-MEN, WISDOM, WOLVERINE ORIGINS, DAMNED. We also ridicule some ridiculous comic hero shows from the 70s - did you know Spidey was a bad guy in turkey? Oh, and Marvel vs. Guiding Light? YOU WHORES! Why don't you just start including a free turd with every comic purchased? No, no, it's fine - we understand. The almighty dollar. I mean, hey, what do your loyal readers matter if you can make a few extra bucks, right? Comments[0] |
Wed, 8 November 2006 Woody, Dr Sexy and I sit down to share our brilliance on the concept of merchandise for MOGs. Inspired by WoW's CCG, we consider the repercussions of putting your brand on something other than your game. That, and we reminisce about some rather ridiculous stories involving our own terrible MOG addictions. Or at least Woody's. It's funny to laugh at other's frustrations! It's been an awfully long time since we graced you with our wisdom. If you've missed us, the feeling's mutual, believe you me! But you can get your fix of us right here! Comments[0] |
Mon, 6 November 2006 After a long break, we're back! I know, you missed us. We got the card and the flowers, thanks. Titles we spoil this week: 52, BLUE BEETLE, DETECTIVE COMICS, EX MACHINA, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, MIDNIGHTER, SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL, BEYOND, CRIMINAL, FANTASTIC FOUR THE END, INCREDIBLE HULK, IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN, UNCANNY X-MEN, WHAT IF AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED. Also, we go a bit insane about Ted Kord here, so be warned.Comments[0] |
Mon, 16 October 2006 Titles we spoil this week: 52, NEIL GAIMANS NEVERWHERE, CROSS BRONX, BEYOND, DOCTOR STRANGE OATH, FANTASTIC FOUR, GIANT SIZE WOLVERINE, INCREDIBLE HULK, IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN, MARVEL TEAM-UP. The bad news is that I got the soundboard working, so expect to be annoyed.I think playing the soundboard for my friends was the entire reason I started these N3RDCasts, to be honest. It just makes me laugh. No doubt it'll make you shudder, but that'll learn ya. It's funny when HappyJack gets angry and I interrupt him with Mr. Rogers quotes, though. That alone is worth listening. Mon, 9 October 2006 Titles we spoil this week: 52, BATMAN, BLUE BEETLE, JACK OF FABLES, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, TRIALS OF SHAZAM, INVINCIBLE, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, CABLE DEADPOOL, CAPTAIN AMERICA, CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE, CIVIL WAR YOUNG AVENGERS & RUNAWAYS, DAREDEVIL, ETERNALS, HEROES FOR HIRE, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, ULTIMATES 2. Civil War continues to be woefully unbalanced, but we're sure NEXT issue will show us what we're missing, right Joe Q?Don't ask me why Sexy is so paranoid. I think we have to cut him off of caffeine before we start recording. Comments[0] |
Mon, 2 October 2006 Coming to you from the McDonald's parking lot - that's how you ensure AUTHENTIC fan-boy sound, I tell ya. Titles we spoil this week: 52, ASTONISHING X-MEN, MOON KNIGHT, X-FACTOR, NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE, SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN, CIVIL WAR, CIVIL WAR X-MEN, WOLVERINE. Mostly we focus on the Civil War stuff. A lot to talk about there. There's also some...disturbing dream talk.Normally I'd insert a warning to the 'delicate'-types about this N3RDCast, but honestly, do I still need to? As always, comment below on our brilliant Civil War insights, or email us. If you still want to get in on our obscene phone call contest, there's still time! Call us at (646) 797-2763 or Skype to "N3RDCast." Comments[0] |
Mon, 25 September 2006 I really love it when we have time to get together and just take our time going over books. Not because we get into any great discussions or anything; mostly just because it's a good excuse to vent all my stupidity I normally keep oh-so-well contained the rest of the week. For example, instead of spending all our time discussing comic books as we should, we instead spend our time talking about the tv shows we watch. Plus, we reveal our exciting N3 Obscene Call Contest! You, ah, probably don't want the kids to listen to this one... Titles we spoil this week: 52 WEEK, BATMAN LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, EX MACHINA, FABLES, GREEN ARROW, MAN CALLED KEV, CAPTAIN AMERICA, CIVIL WAR FILES, INCREDIBLE HULK, MS MARVEL, ULTIMATE X-MEN, WOLVERINE ORIGINS, WASTELAND. Also, reviewing indie books from the Baltimore Comic-Con: Some Big Lumberjack, The Last Sin of Mark Grimm, and Chronicles of a Bounty Hunter. Oh, and we also spoil the upcoming Civil War, so you shouldn't listen to this until you're caught up on Civil War. Comments[0] |
Mon, 18 September 2006 Titles we spoil this week: 52 WEEK, DETECTIVE COMICS, SIDEKICK, BEYOND, FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN, MARVEL 1602 FANTASTICK FOUR, MARVEL TEAM-UP, PUNISHER, SPIDER-MAN SPECIAL BLACK & BLUE & READ ALL OVER, UNCANNY X-MEN. Also, Kwip's tales of the Baltimore Comic-Con, featuring such luminaries as Dan Slott, Jimmy Palmiotti, Tim Truman, John Ostrander and the ever-popular Scott Kurtz.Comments[0] |
Wed, 6 September 2006 Titles we spoil this week include: 52, ALL STAR SUPERMAN, BOYS, JUSTICE, SUPERMAN BATMAN, TEEN TITANS, CABLE DEADPOOL, CIVIL WAR YOUNG AVENGERS & RUNAWAYS , SHE-HULK, ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR, ULTIMATE X-MEN ANNUAL, X-FACTOR, X-MEN. Also, a moment of tenderness for Steve Irwin. Why oh why couldn't it have been the Wild Boyz? Comments[0] |
Fri, 1 September 2006 A very short list of spoilers for a very short N3RDCast. This episode, we spoil: BLUE BEETLE, JACK OF FABLES, HEROES FOR HIRE, NEW AVENGERS, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, and WOLVERINE. The good news is that this recording is SOOOOO bad, you won't hear anything we say anyway, so it doesn't matter! The good news is you only have to suffer for ten minutes or so.As I might have mentioned before, our schedules are a bit crazy this week. In an attempt to make up for not having a lot of free time, we attempt to meet and record at the pizza shop next to our local comic shop. As a result, you can hear pretty much every other conversation other than ours much more clearly. To wind things up, we got beat up and called nerds by some bullies, who then took our lunch money! Comments[0] |
Wed, 30 August 2006 Nothing but love episode, spoiling the titles: 52, BATMAN, DMZ, FLASH THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE, JACK OF FABLES, WONDER WOMAN, FEAR AGENT, ASTONISHING X-MEN, DAREDEVIL, ETERNALS, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, ULTIMATES ANNUAL. Short but oh so loving! We're still struggling to find time to record these. It seems like it should be so easy - grab a few beers, turn on the recorder, be brilliant. But with our various work (or lack thereof) schedules, and now Kwipette being in Physical Therapy, I've been raining on our parades lately and screwing things up. But speaking of... Nothing, really, just speaking: How would you like to help us choose a new theme song? My little brother is quite the accomplished composer. In fact, he was just hired by the Cirque du Soleil as a composer. No, really. He got all the talent in our family. Little bastich. ANYWAY. He's got some cool songs out there, and I'm going to steal a new one for our theme song. Go here, give them a listen, see what you think. Let us know what you think as far as picking a new theme song. He composed our current intro & extro songs, but I'm always willing to steal even more from my siblings. Comment here on which you prefer, or email us, or you can call us at (646) 797-2763 or Skype to "N3RDCast". Or hey, if you like the current ones, let us know that, too. We'll ignore you, of course, but still, it'll be fun to mock your opinions... Comments[0] |
Wed, 23 August 2006 Only a few titles we spoil this show: WASTELAND, CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD, THE BOYS, NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE, SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN, ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR, ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL. But what we lack up in length we make up for in... offensiveness?Comments[0] |
Mon, 21 August 2006 This episode we're only spoiling a few titles: IRON MAN, DEADWORLD, 52 WEEK, GREEN LANTERN CORPS, CIVIL WAR X-MEN, GHOST RIDER, IRON MAN, THUNDERBOLTS. But we're full of news about Joe Q's inability to stand up for gay rights, Congress is stupid, how much we hate EVERYONE for the Civil War delay, and some love for Kevin O'Neill. Chock full of gay references, so watch out, Joe Q!Comments[0] |
Wed, 16 August 2006 Titles we spoil this week: CONAN & THE SONGS OF THE DEAD, 52, FABLES, GREEN ARROW, MAN CALLED KEV, BEYOND, CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE, FANTASTIC FOUR FIRST FAMILY, INCREDIBLE HULK, MS MARVEL, NEW X-MEN, SHE-HULK, SQUADRON SUPREME, ULTIMATE X-MEN, WOLVERINE ORIGINS. This is our first time trying the new, shortened N3RDCast format, and you'll be able to tell by how flustered we become! Yaaay, we're like professionals! Well, except for the cursing and getting just about everything wrong.Comments[0] |
Wed, 9 August 2006 Truly a technically superior N3RDCast this week! Titles we spoil: BPRD UNIVERSAL MACHINE, USAGI YOJIMBO, 52 WEEK, CREEPER, DETECTIVE COMICS, EX MACHINA, OUTSIDERS, INVINCIBLE, FANTASTIC FOUR, FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN, MARVEL TEAM-UP, MOON KNIGHT, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, UNCANNY X-MEN, X-MEN FAIRY TALES, WORMWOOD. Sun, 6 August 2006 Woody, Dr. Sexy and Kwip (briefly!) tackle the subject of player-made content and whether it belongs in a MOG or is better left to games like NWN. Comments[0] |
Mon, 31 July 2006 Titles we spoil this week: 52 WEEK, BATMAN, BLUE BEETLE, JACK OF FABLES , NEIL GAIMANS NEVERWHERE, SIDEKICK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, BLACK PANTHER, CAPTAIN AMERICA, CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE, CIVIL WAR YOUNG AVENGERS & RUNAWAYS, DAREDEVIL, NEW AVENGERS, WOLVERINE, X-MEN. This is probably the quickest N3RDCast we've ever done (and will likely ever do again!). Before we started recording, we were certain we'd have to rush. After we finished in a half hour, we sat around looking at each other and realized we rushed too much. So we had a few beers before getting back to work... Comments[0] |
Wed, 26 July 2006 Titles we spoil this week: 52, FLASH, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, SHADOWPACT, SUPERMAN BATMAN, CABLE DEADPOOL , CIVIL WAR, CIVIL WAR X-MEN, DAILY BUGLE CIVIL WAR NEWSPAPER SPECIAL, FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN, SHE-HULK, ULTIMATE X-MEN, UNCANNY X-MEN, X-FACTOR. We also have brand spanking-new mics, which explains why everyone is too damn loud. Sigh. Comments[0] |
Sun, 16 July 2006 We have a LOT of titles to spoil this week since our 3 weeks of slacking, but we only hit: 52, SPIDER-MAN, BATMAN, SQUADRON SUPREME 5, GREEN LANTERN CORPS 2, HERO SQUARED 2, MOON KNIGHT 3, SIDEKICK 1, WALKING DEAD 29, BEYOND 1, THE THING 8, FRANKLIN RICHARDS SON OF A GENIUS 1, DAREDEVIL 86, FRONT LINE CW 3, THUNDERBOLTS 104, WOLVERINE 43, the movie Superman Returns, more about Civil War, and even a tiny bit about Pirates of R’lyeh - er, I mean, Carribean. Mon, 12 June 2006 This week's list includes 52, Wonder Woman, Loaded Bible: Jesus vs Vampires, Action Philosophers, Detective Comics, BPRD, Walking Dead, Marvel Team-Up, Fantastic Four First Family, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and of course, our brilliant wit. Oh - and did we mention Civil War? We should have, because SPEEDBALL LIVES!!! Of course, now Joe Quesada can walk around feeling smug at how he tricked everyone, the wascally wabbit that he is. Ooooo, if only we'd guessed that! Comments[0] |
Wed, 7 June 2006 Our Wizard World Philadelphia recap, complete with poor references! Plus this week's pulls: The Thing, Spidey, 52, Halo, Battlestar Galactica, Iron Man, many more; and all recorded while we eat! Comments[0] |

Tue, 30 May 2006 Batman, Blue Beetle, New Avengers, Powers, She-Hulk, X-Factor, Wolverine, Wyrms and Tag & Bink (again!). And so many more, I can't even remember - not to mention our usual charming banter, complete with offensive commentary! Comments[0] |
Wed, 24 May 2006 I was going to try and write down all the comics we talk about this week, but first I have to warn you: YOU WILL BE OFFENDED IN THIS N3RDCAST! Also, f Joe Quesada for cancelling The Thing. So there. I guess we also discuss 52, Wolverine: Origins, Jeremiah Harm, and... erm... I'm pretty sure there's a couple others, but I think I blew an artery screaming about Joe Quesada, so I've forgotten. Comments[0] |
Mon, 15 May 2006 Without HappyJack, Dr Sexy and Kwip do their best to fight through Fantastic Four First Family, Jeremiah Harm, She Hulk and some less than good comics (52, anyone?). Plus, a special section on caring for your comics! Comments[0] |
Wed, 10 May 2006 Woody, Dr Sexy and Kwip gather round to discuss that key element of a good MOG - finding a good group. And leading a good group. And Sigil breaking up with Microsoft to court SOE. Hilarity abounds! And some good advice about grouping, of course. Comments[0] |
Sun, 7 May 2006 Featuring a VERY special soundtrack this week courtesy of Scott Kurtz, the Foo Fighters, Madonna and Poppa Kurtz, we take a look at this week's comics, including the first Civil War and the last Identity Crisis, among others. And if you're wondering about the Scott Kurtz thing, first read this. Then go listen to this. Make sense now? Comments[0] |

Tue, 2 May 2006 At long last, we return to talking about MOGs. Well, one MOG, DDO, that we actually play, and a lot of other bitching, speculation, and distracted blathering about upcoming MOGs. And a secret message for Sanya... Comments[0] |

On top of that, the new Blue Beatle, Planet Hulk, Astonishing X-Men, and - if you can believe it - HappyJack bitches about Spidey's new costume! Comments[0] |
Mon, 24 April 2006 Making up for last week's drought in comics, this week finds us with a HUGE amount of new releases to talk about: Justice, Next Wave, Daredevil, etc etc - and even (gasp) Nightwing! Comments[0] |
Mon, 17 April 2006 A tough week in comics, with only a few good picks (but of course, plenty to bitch about!). The new hardware’s on-scene, though, so hopefully you’ll notice a bit of improvement. It only took me several hours and repeated trips to the local Radio Shack to finally get all the pieces I needed, and here we are with a finished product! Of course I probably screwed something up during the upload and managed to destroy the quality… Comments[0] |

Tue, 4 April 2006 I'm so embarrassed. For those of you not in the know, Rick Dakan is an amazingly talented author, as well as being creator of City of Heroes. He wrote the incredibly delicious Geek Mafia (which you can even check out for FREE!)
I met Rick at the NYC Comic Con, where he immediately struck me as an absolutely cool, down-to-earth guy that I enjoyed talking to greatly. He even agreed, right on the spot, to come on a N3RDCast and subject himself to my pathetic attempts at interviewing. To demonstrate just how pathetic I am, I managed to completely crash my recording rig just before Rick called in for the interview. Since it had taken us a month to work out a time, I knew there was not going to be another window any time soon if I didn't stick with this time. So I patched together some recording gear (and you'll be able to tell the emphasis is on 'patched' when you listen to this disaster). I tried to edit the file as best I could, amping his voice and toning down my incessant braying, but it still came out horribly rough. I've got someone that has suggested some audio software that could help clean up the file, but I already feel bad having delayed this long. So I'm going to put this monstrosity up for now and hope I can get it fixed within the next couple of days. I'm so ashamed. I'm going to go beat myself with a microphone stand now. If you're the patient type, you can attempt to bear through the recording as it is. Comments[0] |
Mon, 3 April 2006 Once again, fiddling with our equipment finds this week with the extra-sensitive mic. So sensitive, in fact, you can tell the minute I become aroused (as we talk about the start of the Civil War series) by the sound of my nipples scratching against my tshirt. There's some colorful imagery for your Monday morning! There were a lot of good releases last week, and we've all got several to heap our praises upon. We're finally beginning to find our rhythm with these, and although we'll never even come CLOSE to behaving professionally, I feel confident to state that I'm not completely humiliated by this. That'll come tomorrow, when I post the interview with Rick Dakan that's the aural equivalent of a train wreck. Yaay technology! For now, here it is, complete in all it's comic-y goodness. Enjoy! Mon, 26 December 2005 ![]() I apologize for the delay in today’s post. Something was screwy with the server all day today. Hopefully it’s all straightened out, and now you can enjoy this in all it’s audio goodness. For today’s N3RDCast, I interviewed Justin “Kaigon” Parks, who some of you might have possibly heard of… Yes, he’s obviously a friend, but the interview format is the way I’ve decided to go with the N3RDCasts. I’m not famous in the MOG world, not a shaker nor a mover (unless you’re talking about when I fall down…), but I DO know a lot of people – really interesting people – in the MOG world. And most of them are really fun to talk to, and (hopefully) I can share some of the pleasure I get talking to these people with you. And if we happen to talk about a current or future MOG they’re working on – hey, all the better! They’re not all going to be cartoonist friends of mine, of course. Kaigon made a good ‘test subject’ because: A) He’s a funny guy, and I love his comic (as you should too, suckah!), and B) he knows what an idiot I am so he’s more than willing to put up with my struggles as I attempt to figure out how to work that there computery thingy. It was neat, too, just to be able to talk to him about his work. I really do love his comics and just the way he can draw. There’s tons more I could’ve bugged him to explain, but I’ll save that for another day when I offend a future guest and they cancel at the last minute… I’m also fiddling with the file sampling to get it down to a MUCH smaller size (which you’ll notice with this one). I’ll take 9 megs over 29 megs any day, thanks. I’ve also got an intro & outro ’soundtrack’ for us. I’m not sure if I’m going to stick with that – it was made by my little brother, and he gave it to me for free, so I certainly can’t complain! But I think I’m going to pick one of his royalty-free tunes and actually PAY for one. I’d like to have a CUSTOM theme song (a la Blank Label Podcast – which is THE best podcast you can hear on the web, in my opinion). I’m still considering hosting options. I don’t know how our sever’s going to hold up with a lot of large files being downloaded, but I’ll see how it looks, and I’m still sniffing around for other hosting hoptions. So there you have it. Take a listen, let me know what you think. I am, of course, open to suggestions about who you’d like to hear me interview. I have a number of developers lined up to interview, but I’m always on the lookout for more cool froods to sass. Oh – and in case you failed to notice, the archives are stocked. The archive page doesn’t work for shit, though. I’m still working on that, but you can page (and page and page and page) back through the calendar navigation to get all the way back to 2000 (dear Gord, can you believe I’ve been writing that long? Sheesh!). If you happen to know of a GOOD archive (and I’m talking one that’s all purty-like, like the one at PvP) that works with WordPress, I swear to Gord I will… I don’t know, send you some Lancaster Beef Jerky or something.
